Minutes of Reedley Marina Berth Holders Meeting

held on Saturday 1st October at 9.30am in the Kingfisher Café Bar

Jason opened the meeting by welcoming all new berth holders to the Marina. He also welcomed back Nick and Gina (B28) (Lady Teal Hotel Boat) who have been out cruising all summer.

The meeting began by reviewing the minutes from the meeting of Saturday 30th July.

1.  WIFI. This was a major item at the previous meeting as prior to the installation of the new system on 25th July, WIFI had been a problem. It was generally felt that things were much improved but still could be better…

Jason acknowledged the excellent work of Jane Dennison (C38) who has taken on the role of WIFI representative for the Marina. Jane couldn’t be present at the meeting but it was felt that, on her return, we should have another meeting with Alan Bowness of Aughton WIFI to consider how to further upgrade the system.

2.  Security. Jason referred to the new lights and cameras that have been installed to protect the rear car park – these were felt to be an improvement. At the meeting of 30th July we discussed potentially changing the barrier to a fob system (and making it necessary to use a fob to go out of the main gates). A show of hands supported this idea so Jason agreed to chase Security Solutions for the quote.

Dave mentioned that he had witnessed an Indian takeaway driver climbing the main gates to access the Marina, to deliver a takeaway. This prompted Jason to request that if berth holder are expecting visitors / deliveries they should meet that person(s) at the gate and let them in.

Jason reminded the meeting that everyone coming in and out of the Marina (legally or illegally) is on CCTV.

3.  Jason reported that there would be a new cleaning rota for the Marina. Steve and Terry are to be in charge of the cleaning in the Marina facilities building until April, at which point there would be a review… it may be that we should employ another cleaner for the summer months. Jason asked anybody who might be interested in a part-time cleaning job to see Terry or Steve.

4.  There was no Management report this week as Steve was busy with a pump-out, Terry unable to attend and Lee had a hire customer to deal with.

There were a number of items of ‘any other business’:

It was felt that a meeting between Kingfisher staff and berth holders (plus any other interested parties) should take place to discuss opening times and events. Rachel (Kingfisher Staff) stated that she was keen to open at any time, by prior arrangement for the berth holders.

A meeting is planned for 4pm on Thursday 27th October, all welcome, in the Kingfisher.

There was concern from various berth holders regarding the jetties and the water supply after the cold weather of 2010/11 had frozen all the taps. Jason confirmed that Terry and Steve would be putting tap jackets on each tap when cold weather is forecast. Many of the taps (and pipes) have been changed so the situation should be better than last year.

It was agreed the best way to prepare the jetties was to do a powerwash now to clean off all the algae. Jason rejected the proposal of handrails (Patricia A4) but said the management would look again at the possibility of applying a non-slip resin (or grit) to parts of the jetties.

Luba (A23) asked if salt boxes could be provided; Jason agreed. Peter (C37) asked if there had been any developments regarding the disappearance of his anchor. Jason replied that the Police had been notified and were conducting enquiries.

Brian (A3) mentioned that the parking area outside the Marina office was getting overcrowded and people were not leaving their cars in the marked parking bays. Jason agreed and asked berth holders (especially those on A Jetty) to make sure their cars were not blocking access. If the bays there are full, it was suggested that berth holders use the car parking spaces near the bins compound.

Jason pointed out that a new sign had been put up directing Kingfisher Café customers to park in the area reserved solely for them.

John (B2) mentioned that the ground light at the rear car park was broken and needed fixing. Jason agreed to alert Gary Hind, the electrician.

It was observed, generally, that although the Marina is tidy, an area round the back of the facilities building (i.e. outside the laundry room and the Elsan disposal room) was filthy and full of discarded cans. This was noted and has since been tidied up.

As an addition to the above item, Jason reminded berth holders that bikes were left in this area at owners’ own risk.

Andy (A23) was concerned that not all boats in the Marina had a British Waterways licence and did this mean they were not insured. Jason noted that the Marina’s terms and conditions state that all berth holders must have a current, valid British Waterways licence. He assured the meeting that the management would contact British Waterways to find out who did not have a licence.

Meeting finished at 10.10am.

Next meeting scheduled for Saturday 10th December 2011.
